Some people say Hotmail has banners and flashy video ads and a bad rep. Others – like me – have been using it since Jesus stepped on Golgotha.
Despite the crowd using hotmail, Microsoft launched a new email service today. Outlook.com… This is a completely new, built-from-scratch service. This is Outlook.com, and for the time being, at least, it will exist separately from Hotmail. The engineers wanted to build this new service from scratch instead of retrofitting the good-ole’ HM. As a result,Outlook offers a fresh, minimal interface that fits well into the Metro\W8 style.
As in Outlook 2013, key buttons like flag, delete and “mark as read” show up when you hover over an email with your mouse. On the right side, we have Facebook and LinkedIn built in so that we can glance at what our contacts are up to. And for now, you have the option to switch back to hotmail if you don’t like the new Outlook.
Do you remember Skype? Being bought by Microsoft? Aye, now we know why, Outlook.com will have Skype built in. The service isn’t ready just yet, but Microsoft says it will be rolling out soon, so stay tuned.
So Hotmail and Gmail users out there, (Myla, can you hear me dear?) you will want to check the new Outlook. And don’t be surprised if you want to stick around.
N.
